India
has announced the opening of an Embassy in Tallinn, capital of Estonia,
by year-end and there are number of reasons why New Delhi has decided
to do so as part of its efforts to enhance diplomatic presence in Europe
including Baltics.

Estonian e-residency
program continues to be popular among Indian people as it enables
establishing and managing an EU company fully remotely which is very
practical during the ongoing pandemic. Estonia also continues to be an
attractive destination for higher education seekers as several programs in English are available and Estonia is known for its high quality of education.
It may be noted that Estonia and India are celebrating 30 years from
the establishment of diplomatic relations. The EU leaders including
Estonia will meet prime minister Modi in May in Porto during the
EU-India leaders’ meeting.
Cybersecurity is one area where there is potential for Estonia and
India to continue to work together and a bilateral cybersecurity
dialogue with India may be set up. In 2018 Estonia entered into a MoU
with Telangana which includes a cyber component. In 2019, India and
Estonia decided to cooperate on cyber issues and e-governance and emerging digital technologies during the visit of the Vice President Venkaiah Naidu to Estonia.
India has decided to enhance its engagement with Nordic and Baltic
states eyeing cooperation in the areas of high technology, Artificial
Intelligence, green technology and investments.
