Nov. 2 (Xinhua) -- The Bulgarian Health Ministry on Tuesday morning reported a daily record high of 310 COVID-19 deaths in the last 24 hours, taking the total number of deaths to 24,309.
The previous daily record of 243 deaths was reported last Tuesday.
According to the ministry, the number of confirmed infections has reached 608,499, an increase of 6,007 over the past 24 hours.
It also said that 8,030 patients are currently hospitalized, with 669 in intensive care, while 3,009 people have recovered from the disease in Bulgaria, raising the total number of recoveries to 481,778.
Meanwhile, 14,545 doses of COVID-19 vaccines were administered in the last 24 hours, taking the total number to 2.87 million, the ministry said.
According to the European Center for Disease Prevention and Control, 25.5 percent of the adult population in Bulgaria have been fully vaccinated, ranking last in the European Union.
"The situation is critical and will be so in the next few weeks," Health Minister Stoycho Katsarov said in a statement on Tuesday.
"Vaccination is what will take us out of this disaster," he said.
"Yes, vaccines are effective. This is obvious. In the countries that have been vaccinated, several people die, not several hundred," he said, urging people to get vaccinated.
